Our story
How a promise gave birth to Lumyeye.
No visual aid was simple enough for older blind and visually impaired people. So we built Lumyeye, the voice app that changes everything — born from a promise made to Arlette, 91.
The trigger — 2018
It all started with Arlette.
It all started with shared moments with Arlette, 91, who became blind. I saw with my own eyes the gradual isolation that visual impairment and sight loss cause in older people.
"I watched Arlette pull shrimp out of the freezer thinking they were carrots. I watched her panic over dropping a tangerine on the floor and being unable to find it."
For a month, I tested every existing device. Specialized readers at €1,200, smart glasses at €3,500, subscriptions to unknown volunteers on video. The verdict was clear: none was simple enough for Arlette. None gave her back her dignity.
