Can in hand — identification

"Lumyeye, what can am I holding?" — in under a second, the app reads brand, contents, weight and expiration date. Works on cans, jars, pouches, bottles and tactile stickers you've added yourself.

Sample transcript and context

Mr. Lemoine, 69, lives alone with advanced cataracts. He pulls a can from his pantry by touch and photographs it with his iPhone. Lumyeye Pro replies in under a second: "Extra-fine green beans, 400 grams drained, best by August 12, 2028." The app reads what's printed on the packaging: product, brand, weight, expiration date and posted nutritional values.

Compatible with all common food containers: metal cans, glass jars, milk or soup cartons, pasta packages, coffee bags, vacuum-sealed packaging. Lumyeye Pro also reads raised tactile stickers the user may have added to organize cabinets. Reading still works when labels are partially damaged if the writing stays visible.

For fresh foods without packaging (fruit, vegetables, bread, cheese), Lumyeye Pro offers a detailed visual description: "It's a Royal Gala apple, yellow-red, medium-sized, no visible blemish." For glass jars, the app also describes what it sees in the image (visible level, handwritten label).

Lumyeye Pro reads on demand, photo by photo. No automatic pantry inventory, no scheduled expiration alert, no suggested grocery list. The user requests reading when they pick up a can. iPhone 16+ exclusive, from $16.99/month.

Frequently asked questions

Pantry & kitchen — your questions.

Does Lumyeye Pro work with fresh foods without packaging (fruit, veg, bread)?

Yes. The app provides a detailed visual description of fresh food: type of fruit or vegetable, color, size, ripeness, presence of any blemishes or mold. Ideal for checking quality before cooking.

Are glass jars recognized?

Yes. Lumyeye Pro reads labels on standard glass jars (jam, preserves, sauces). The app also describes what it sees in the image (visible level, handwritten label). Always check the pop-button on home preserves yourself before opening.

Can I use raised tactile stickers to organize my cabinets?

Yes. Lumyeye Pro reads raised tactile stickers you've added yourself. The app combines that reading with the original packaging recognition for doubly reliable identification.

What happens if the label is partially torn or stained?

Lumyeye Pro reads what remains visible on the label. If the writing is partially torn or stained, the reading may be incomplete: try another photo in better light or rotate the can. Lumyeye Pro reads; it does not invent missing text.

How do I trigger the reading?

Tap or double-tap anywhere on the screen in Lumyeye Pro to activate listening, then point the camera at the can and say "What is it?". OCR (read aloud) runs and the answer comes back in a natural warm voice.

Testimonial

Mr. Lemoine, 69, Bordeaux.

"My cataracts made all my pantry labels unreadable. My daughter sorted them once a month. With Lumyeye Pro, I pull out a can, I photograph it, the app tells me what it is in one second. I cook on my own again. It changes a life."

— Mr. Lemoine, 69, Bordeaux, bilateral cataracts

Practical tips

Organize your pantry with Lumyeye Pro.

  1. Use raised tactile stickers for your favorites. Add tactile stickers on cans you use often. Lumyeye Pro reads them in addition to the original packaging.
  2. Photograph in good light. Natural daylight or a kitchen ceiling light. Lumyeye Pro reads partially damaged labels but a clean photo is faster.
  3. Rotate the can if the label is hidden. Turn the can around if the brand/expiry is on the back. Lumyeye Pro reads what's visible.
  4. Email yourself a shopping list. After identifying what's left in the pantry, ask Lumyeye Pro to email you a list of what to restock.
  5. Don't rely on Lumyeye Pro to track expiration dates. The app reads on demand, no scheduled alert. Set your own reminders for short-dated products.
